Community History Workshop

just announced for 26 April in York. 

Everyone welcome!

1. York’s  “Kings Book of York Heroes” 
2. Yorkshire, WW1, Africa and the Middle East
3. WW1 and Pacifism 



You can come for 1, 2 or all 3 - whichever you prefer.

Venues and timings are provisional but are likely to be
1. Near Yorkshire Museum, 10-12.30
2. Same venue. 2-6
3. Yorkshire Museum, 7.30
Lunch & snacks will be provided.

The aims of the day will be to

• provide an introduction to major themes relating to the Kings Book and WW1 in the Middle East
• introduce some community and academic research which has already been done in this area
• discuss and develop future projects of community history research.

This day is being developed in association with the "BABITME" conference in York (17-18 June 2016), and is supported by the Centre for Hidden Histories.

More about the Kings Book Project

The Kings Book lists 1447 Yorkies who died in WW1. 
Among these are 90 who fell in the Middle East.
They are listed at the foot of this blog.

We plan to research:

• these 90 and their pals, and families then and today
• the locations where they served and died
•   “Other persons' histories”: Germans, Turks and others affected by the same events.

This will raise questions such as the following:

• ·         What were they doing there, and why?
• ·         What difference did it make?
• ·         What about non-Brits in the area, then and now?
